Crossing the Ditch have started out with a plan of attack to cross the ditch based on the latest meteorological and oceanographic intelligence. Ten waypoints have been established to help guide the crew of Lot 41 amid high seas and strong currents.

The image below shows Lot 41's location 8 hrs into the expedition. The drift SSW started when the team stopped to report in on their evening sked and demonstrates how strong the current is pulling them SSW.
Finally, the image below is an overlay of Lot 41s current position in comparison to the planned way points, overlayed with the CSIROs sea surface currents. This overlay gives a better example of why the planned route ventures SE before heading directly for NZ.
