The 'Sprint' through the Game Theory Looking Glass
The origin of Game Theory has it's roots in applied mathematics and
economics and involves the study of situations where players choose
different actions in an attempt to maximize their returns. The
essential feature of Game Theory is that it provides a formal
modelling approach to social situations in which decision makers
interact with other minds. Game theory extends the simpler
optimization approach developed in neoclassical economics.
'The Sprint', a highly tactical one-on-one track cycling match race between opponents exhibits classic game theory fundamentals. Classic Sprint strategies involve cat and mouse behavior to force the opponent to take the lead giving an aerodynamic advantage to the trailing rider.
RaceRecon support fact-based decision making and our study of 'The Sprint' through the Game Theory looking glass proposes an analytical basis for optimizing race strategies against given opponents.
So What?
For the RaceRecon uninitiated; What if you could predict the probability of winning against a given opponent using a set strategy? What if we could formulate a dominant strategy against specific opponents? And what if given a specific set of likely opponents we could optimize your training to increase the probability of success?
RaceRecon will be releasing our paper on The Sprint through the game theory looking glass in the third quarter of 2007.
